Nothing But Robert Downey Jr. Holding His Oscars in a “Happy” Picture

Robert Downey Jr. seemed dissatisfied during presenter Jimmy Kimmel’s opening speech, which included some jokes directed at previous Iron Man stars, giving the 96th Academy Awards a rather uncomfortable start. But the night quickly transformed into a happy event for the Hollywood legend.

In Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Robert Downey Jr. played Admiral Lewis Strauss, and he finally won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, after having previously been nominated in 1993 for his performance as Charlie Chaplin in Chaplin and in 2009 for Tropic Thunder. In addition to Robert’s victory, Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning film won in six other categories.

Robert Downey Jr. just posted an exuberant picture of himself holding his freshly acquired Academy Award trophy on his Instagram account to commemorate the momentous occasion.

Taking a departure from his usual refined look, the celebrity was holding a cup of coffee in one hand and his Academy Award trophy in the other. He was dressed in a gold robe. Robert wrote, “Oh, happy day,” as the caption for the photo. The actor not only celebrated adding another trophy to his collection, but he also used the occasion to shrewdly advertise Happy Products. Robert purposefully emphasized in his message the coffee firm he and Craig Dubitsky co-founded earlier this year.

At the 2024 Oscars, Ke Huy Quan, the winner of Best Supporting Actor the year before, presented Robert Downey Jr. with the trophy. He thanked the academy and his awful childhood in that order during his acceptance speech. I want to thank Susan Downey, my wife, who happens to be my veterinarian.

You brought me back to life with love, and she got me a growling rescue pet. I’m here for that reason. I’m grateful. This is my little secret. This work was more for me than it was for me. Emma made sure to surround me with one of the greatest casts and teams ever—Emmy, Cillian—and Chris knew it. It was amazing. And as a result, I’m a better guy than I am standing in front of you.

The actor acknowledged his stylist and entertainment attorney, Tom Hanson, in addition to his spouse, Susan and Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan. “Thanks, bro, for 40 years, half of which he spent trying to get me insured and bailing me out.”

Aside from Robert Downey Jr.’s victory, Cillian Murphy took home a prize in the Best Actor division. The crew behind Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer had a great night, as Nolan himself won the Best Director prize. The movie achieved its zenith when it was awarded the esteemed Best Picture title. In addition to these significant successes, the film won awards in other important areas, such as script, original soundtrack, and cinematography. Oppenheimer’s several victories in a variety of categories highlight his breadth and brilliance, making the 96th Academy Awards a very noteworthy event.

Apart from Robert Downey Jr.’s victory, Cillian Murphy won an Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer in the Best Actor category. Best Picture went to Nolan, who also took home the Best Director trophy for the film. In addition, the film took home awards for script, original soundtrack, and cinematography.
