Ravichandran Ashwin returns to the top after a tearful series

<p>After taking nine wickets in the fifth and final Test against England last week, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin took back the top spot in the bowling rankings.</p>

<p>With 26 wickets in all, India’s spin spearhead had an incredible 100th Test match at Dharamsala, finishing as the series’ top wicket-taker.</p>
<p>Ashwin overtook colleague Jasprit Bumrah at the top of the Test rankings after taking his 500th wicket in the third match in Rajkot.</p>
<p>Josh Hazlewood of Australia moved up two spots and took six wickets in the second Test against New Zealand, forcing Bumrah to drop to third position.</p>
<p>Ashwin reached the top of the rankings for the sixth time in his career, and the 37-year-old had a memorable series against England.</p>
<p>Before returning to the team on Day 4 of the match, the off-spinner had a brief leave of absence from the Rajkot Test to meet with his sick mother in Chennai.</p>
<p>Ashwin expressed his gratitude to India skipper Rohit Sharma on his YouTube channel for allowing him to spend time with his mother in Chennai during the Test match.</p>
<p>The spinner said, “Rohit is a special person, an outstanding leader, with a golden heart.” “I saw it directly. That is the sort of captain he is; I would sacrifice my life for him on the field.</p>
