“It would be an incredible double”: Vijay Mallya’s Remark for the Men’s Team Following RCB’s Win as WPL Champions

After winning the WPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s women’s cricket team has at last taken home a trophy. On Sunday evening, the RCB, captained by Smriti Mandhana, triumphed against the Delhi Capitals, the overwhelming favorites for the championship.

Since the 2008 introduction of the Indian Premier League, this is the first time in RCB history that they have won a trophy. Since then, their men’s cricket team has reached the final of the now-defunct Champions League T20 once and ended up as runners-up in the IPL three times.

Former RCB owner Vijay Mallya praised the women’s team for their great season and said that he now wanted to see the men’s team win the next IPL in 2024 in order to complete the double.

“My sincere congrats on the WPL victory, RCB Women’s Team. If the long-overdue RCB Men’s Team were to win the IPL, it would be an incredible double. Mallya said on X (formerly Twitter) “Good Luck.”

When the WPL began play last year, RCB had a terrible start to the season, losing their first five games and placing fourth in the rankings.

But this year, they put up a far better performance in the league to place third and earn a spot in the Eliminator, where they triumphed against the inaugural champion Mumbai Indians.

They defeated the Delhi Capitals, who finished first in the league with six victories and two losses, in the championship game. Therefore, after finishing first in the WPL 2023 points standings, DC lost in the WPL final for the second time in a row.

Following RCB’s victory on Sunday, Mandhana said on JioCinema, “I’m proud of the bunch.” “We had a great Bangalore leg. We suffered two hard defeats when we arrived in Delhi. We discussed the necessity for us to take appropriate action when it is needed. The goal of these competitions is to peak at the ideal moment. We learned a great deal from last year. What went well, what didn’t go well.
